Serb Woman Wounded In Priluzje

Veselinka Dejanovic (52) from Priluzje in north Kosovo was wounded today at 11:00 a.m. in her yard when an unknown attacker opened fire at her from a firearm.

Deputy director of the hospital in north Kosovska Mitrovica Dr. Milan Ivanovic told Tanjug that Dejanovic was hit in the shoulder with a single shot, that she underwent surgery for two hours and that her medical condition is now stable.

At the moment of the attack she was in her garden in Priluzje, the largest Serb village in north Kosovo, inhabited by approximately 3,000 Serbs. Kosovo Police Service spokesman Sami Mehmeti confirmed that the incident occurred to Tanjug news agency, saying that it is suspected that Dejanovic was wounded by a stray bullet. [sic!]

The public prosecutor and forensics experts went to the scene and an investigation into the incident is in progress, said Mehmeti. Ivanovic, who is also the president of the Serb National Council of North Kosovo, assessed that what had happen was another ethnically motivated attack.

"We are expecting representatives of the police and the UNMIK chief to issue an official statement that this incident was in fact a shootout between Serb housewives in the field," said Ivanovic ironically. Because of the increasing number of incidents in north Kosovo with Serb victims a protest gathering has been announced for tomorrow at noon in the center of Zvecan.
