Serbian border guards targeted
"That evening at about 8:50 p.m. 76 bullets were fired in the direction of the checkpoint but luckily not one hit the containers belonging to the police, customs and inspection working at that location. The next day we found the location from which the shots had been fired, counted the empty cartridges of 7.62 mm ammunition of Chinese manufacture and established that the terrorists were firing from the district of Konculj from a location on the west bank of the Binacka Morava river," explained investigative judge Stanisa Mihajlovic of the Vranje District Court, who conducted the investigation with the deputy of the district prosecutor, Miroslav Mansijevic and experts from the Vranje Secretariat of Interior Affairs.
Mihajovic added that the shots were fired from a distance of about 400 meters but that it could not be established with certainty whether the terrorists came from Kosovo and Metohija or from a village in Bujanovac municipality, and how many of them there were. However, taking into account that the administrative line is well guarded, especially in the area of Dobrosin, which is located along the route from Konculj and the place from which the shots were fired, it is hard to believe that the terrorists came from the other side of the administrative line. Moreover, the Army and members of the gendarmerie are being especially careful in guarding and controlling this part toward Kosovo and Metohija, and somewhat further in the direction of Dobrosin there is a Serbia-Montenegro Army base.
The most recent terrorist attack on a checkpoint is being commented on as an attempt to destabilize the south of Serbia. Additionally, some also believe it is related with yesterday's visit by Serbian prime minister Vojislav Kostunica to Bujanovac municipality, as well as the continuation of Vienna negotiations on the future status of Kosovo and Metohija.
