UNMIK PERMITS DISTRIBUTION OF BELGRADE PRESS IN KOSOVO

Following this morning's decision by UNMIK customs not to allow the entry of Belgrade press into northern and central parts of Kosovo, international authorities in the province permitted the distribution of daily newspapers and magazines after reaching an agreement with the Coordinating Center.

According to Jovan Darmanovic, the owner of the agency distributing daily papers in Kosovska Mitrovica, after speaking with the director of Kosovo customs an agreement was reached to allow the press to enter Kosovo, and that all problems relating to the payment of a tax on press would be resolved at a meeting on Tuesday in Pristina.

Darmanovic said that at the administrative crossing UNMIK customs demanded the payment of a tax of 15 percent on press, which would further increase the price of all editions of the daily press.

He said that the same thing also occurred earlier on several occasions.
